Christmas and Family Day (when we have our annual family sports day) are two very important days for me so I will always travel around them.  This Christmas, Mom treated all her kids, grandkids and siblings (25 total) to Cancun for a hot Christmas as a change.  Some people miss the white Christmas but for me as long as I am with the family then it really doesn’t matter where I celebrate it.

The December weather in Cancun is around 24 to 29 degrees — about 5 degrees hotter than Cabo but a lot more humid.  Cancun has whiter sand than Cabo but is also a lot more commercialized.  We stayed in an all inclusive resort called “Grand Oasis Cancun” for a week.  This is NOT a resort I would recommend: the room was small, the food wasn’t great and neither was the service.  I wish we had read the reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor before booking it!  Despite that, it was very nice to spend quality time with family members and especially the 8 seniors (mom and her siblings) as they are not getting any younger.  I enjoyed asking them to share old family stories and showing them the cool features on their new iPhone 7+.

This trip reconfirms my dislike of the cold and that I can live without the winter season completely.  The best part of this trip was seeing how well the siblings and cousins connected.  I had always believed it’s up to the adults to create opportunities for the next generation to bond and to create memories together.
Looking forward to going to Jamaica then Arizona for more sun in 10 days!
