Braces done and gone

braces

When I was a teenager, I hated the extra tooth that stuck out my rows of teeth but my mom thought I looked cute so she never approved the braces that I had long been wanting.  Then, when I was 24, I again wanted to get that tooth removed but the fortune teller told me that it was that tooth that brought and would continue to bring me wealth.  I am not a fan of fortune tellers but being a single mom with no support, better not risk.

Then finally when I was 32 years old, I was determined to wear braces since this was already the 3rd time I wanted this so I found myself the best orthodontics. Besides, at this age, my Mom could longer stop me from what I want to do for myself.

I had “inside braces”  (fixed behind my teeth so that people would not see them when I smile) fitted on me because beauty was a high value for me.  I wore the braces for 4.3 years and the dentists had to remove 12 teeth total in order to get the final results he wanted.  In the end, my face looked very different and my smiles looked so different afterwards, too.   But I was very happy and it’s one of the best decisions I have ever made!

Dec 4/07 – I am hosting myself a “crab and corn” party on Dec 12/07. Finally, after 4.3 yrs!!! Yeah!!!! I am even more excited than going on a first date!!! Can’t wait to bite on the corn and the crab again!!! Yeah!!!!  Getting my teeth straightened had been on my top 5 list for so many years now.  I am very happy about having that done and will never regret it. I had never smiled as much as I did prior to this decision. So so happy and excited!!!

Dec 12/07 – “THE DAY”  Am now sitting on the Dentist’s chair, with my mouth wide open for the doctor to remove the braces.  The only thing that crossed my mind was how a french kiss would feel now that the braces are gone?  lol

FIRST MEAL AFTER BRACES OUT.   Best lunch I had in years!! Feel so good to put “anything” in my mouth again cause nothing gets stuck in braces anymore. Man, probably gonna gain more weight cause I can totally see myself more motivated to eat!! Lol.

LOTS MORE SMILES IN FUTURE.

I am so so motivated to smile lots and lots more now. Why? Because on top of being more confident because of my beautiful straight teeth now, it’s also to make sure that my 4.3 yrs of “self-torture”is worthwhile. :))))))

  1. Although it was over 45 years ago the memory is fresh. I to wore braces for a time. It was an ordeal. I am grateful that I had it done and over at young age. So, I can identify with both aggravation of having them and the relief you felt getting them off. Congratulations Amy.

    1. Hello Steve. Am glad I touched a part of your memory. And am glad that someone else made me feel I am not alone in that ordeal; but it’s all worth it after all.

  2. Having read this I believed it was rather informative. I appreciate you taking the time and energy to put this informative article together. I once again find myself personally spending a lot of time both reading and leaving comments. But so what, it was still worthwhile!
