Feb 20/11 – I just finished a two-hour hike in Lynn Canyon with Monjie, Jordon and Eric’s family. After learning about more about “virtual school” from Monjie, I am “seriously” thinking about that option for Deon starting this September since Jo will be in University by then.
The virtual school is a great option now for Deon. That will mean that he can continue studying and I can accomplish what I have been wanting to do for years now: travelling and bonding with my son the way that I wish I had the opportunity to do with my 2 older children.
Travelling plus getting my kids and myself to learn Mandarin is a thought I have had for many years because I believe that Mandarin will be the most helpful language to know 10+ years from now. I know that if I don’t do it now, then in a couple years, De wouldn’t agree to do it with me anymore. If the virtual school works out well, then I plan to stay in Taiwan for 3 months then move around to other Asian countries such as Thailand, Philippine, China, Indonesia, etc etc. I don’t have an exact goal about how long I will be travelling. It could be as short as 3 months or as long as 3 years….. I am confident that De will also learn a lot via travelling but more importantly I look forward to “connecting” with him more during our travel. This is something I missed out on with my 2 older children while they were growing up due to my busy working schedule back then.
Whether someone comes with us or not, I have already decided to go ahead and start my travel with Deon. But it can not be before Jo graduates in June.
I have a feeling this will be one of those decisions where I can look back and feel very proud of in the future…… :))
Feb 21/11 – I just enrolled Deon in Ebus Academy, an online school accredited by the Canada Ministry of Education. So we are definitely leaving for Asia this fall. I am very excited since traveling with my children has been on my “wish” list for a long time now.
