The Aftermath of the MC Official Announcement

Posted By admin

April 17/14.  After MC has officially announced on April 7/14 that it is pushing through with the tournament in October, the response has been overwhelming.  There has been a big buzz over the event. I have been receiving a huge number of messages in my emails, FB, Twitter and through my website. That whole week, I spent my waking hours responding to the messages, Skype-meeting media people and chess players.

I am very happy to see  that a lot of people all over the world are supporting the tournament.  Many enthusiasts have been responding positively and “thank you” mails and “thumbs up” comments are pouring in.  Media people are asking for interviews and newcomers are eager to know more about the tournament. I am really proud to be a part of this brave decision.

The very next day, however, I noticed some negative comments starting to creep in. Some were saying all sorts of things about ‘US’ (Maurice and me) taking the risk. Some were saying that the tournament would be a financial disaster.  Others were looking at MC as a money making machine for ‘US.’ I was surprised to see all these negative stuff.  I thought that our decision to make MC happen at our own risk will be welcomed with warm hearts. Then I understood: no matter how hard you try, you can not satisfy everyone. There will always be haters.  But, will I let these negative noises distract my focus of driving MC forward?  ABSOLUTELY NOT.

No matter what non-believers have to say, I will not renege on this decision. I only believe in things that are worth believing.  And once I believe in something, I stick to it. I have said the same thing to my team: the best way to deal with these negative comments is to ignore them and to prove them wrong by exerting all efforts towards success.

At this point, I want to pass on these three messages to the MC lovers all over the world:

1. Just ignore the negative thoughts that non-believers are trying to rub on us and do not let their comments deter our faith in MC

2. There is no need to respond to these negative comments because no matter what we do, haters will always hate us.

3. The only way to prove ourselves right is to make MC a grand success.

I would like to remind our supporters once again that MC is not a one time tournament. It is here to stay. All we need to do now is to make the event a success and everything good is bound to follow. I have seen this happen in the past, and believe me, MC is no different.

Thanks for the support and hope to see everyone in Vegas!
