Amy’s Tattoos = 7

Amy's Bourdoir (2009) - 01

I have had 2 tattoos total.  One done in 2011 and one in 2007.

Recently, I have been asked about my tattoos by the many new chess friends I made through MC.  The frequency of the questions made me go back…

Flashback to Nov. 10/07 -I finally decided to go against the convention, at least for my age: for my birthday this year, I got myself tattooed on Oct. 29!

I had wanted a tattoo since many years ago but there had been nothing I want bad enough to have it done permanent on my body until now.  With the reasons I have for going through this – 6 reasons – I don’t think I’d regret this ever.

A week later, when the marks have finally healed, I could shout, “I love it!!!” Thank you Huey and Pandora for coming with me.  Did you know that “inside” this 1 Chinese character, there are also characters that mean “heart” + “friendship” + “must” + “acceptance.”  Very meaningful!!!! Best BD gift I got for myself……

But OMG!  I can’t believe my mom’s reaction on my tattoo. After dinner with her tonight, I showed uncle (sitting beside mom) my tattoo and asked if the writing was nice coming from a Caucasian  tattoo artist. He says yes, it’s very nice. Surprisingly, mom not only did not seem surprised but even said,  “Very nicely printed. How much does it cost?”  It’s really OMG!  Has she changed or what? LOL… I was very happy!!

Fast forward to September 2011 – I was in hot yoga class, I saw the teacher with a tattoo on her ankle which I thought was very pretty so I decided I wanted a 2nd tattoo on the same spot.  But since tattoo is something permanent, what would I want on my body forever that I will not regret?  Thinking about it more, I decided for the initials of the 4 (my mom and my 3 kids) most important people in my life.  Since I would be travelling for 2 years with just 1 of these 4 people, I decided to have all their initials tattooed on my ankle, a sign that  they would be with me regardless of which part of the world I would be in.

PS: Oh BTW, to me, tattooing someone’s name on someone else’s body is the biggest “commitment” anyone could make to oneself.  It’s bigger than marriage since divorce is only a piece of paper away while tattoo removal will cost a life long permanent scar. This is why I so missed the one and only guy that ever tattooed my name onto his body….. how much more can I describe his love, his commitment to loving me and how proud he is of telling others how much I mean to him?? I am not convinced I will ever have the commitment to tattoo any one’s name on my body!! This is why I seriously think that if he were alive today and if he proposed to me again, I would actually say YES this time…….

  1. Amy, I had my children’s names tattooed to my arm, so I know the profound feelings you had to make this commitment. Ever lasting and deep. To have a lover do this would be an amazing display of love. Thanks for sharing!

  2. A very cute tattoo. I don’t know what it is about tattoos on women that I personally find so attractive. But I do. I could look at this all day.
