Kel’s basketball game

basketballJan. 21/08 – Best game I have ever seen!!! Almost had heart attack. We were losing 5-9 points all along until the last 3 mins. Final score was 56-55, with us winning by 1 point in the last 8 seconds!!! Yeah!!!! So proud of our boys!!! They played so well today. Especially Kel, of course.

Jo was the scorekeeper in today’s game. She told me that the UBC coach was there scouting and she noticed that he made lots of notes on Kel and Derik. Now what does THAT scouting mean?

I learned later that it means that they are looking to recruit people to play for them. It could be on a college or professional level.  Well,  I don’t doubt the boys’ skills but are they good enough for the pro?  But if it’s scouting for UBC, does that mean “auto acceptance” to UBC if they like Kel?  If it is, that’s cool.  Saves me money, right?

Actually, Kel asked me a few days ago about being trained in my business right after high school instead of going to university. I told him that I won’t build anymore after this year cause I feel that market has been strong for too many years already so I don’t want to risk. I offered that he could take a year off and see what job he could find. I told him too that even U-grads have a hard time finding jobs, so high school degree is nothing these days.  But I left the choice to him.

And so, it was surprising that at dinner at Uncle 9’s house last night, when he was asked which university he would be going, he answered without hesitation “McGill, UBC or University of Cali.” Whew!!!! …….. So please help rub it into him by saying University degree is minimum standard in today’s society, even if it means he wants to take over whatever buz I might have in the future.
