Jan. 28/14  –  Minus 12 degreeS was the record coldest temperature I have ever experienced all my life.  My fingers froze after being outside just for 3 minutes!  Wow!!  Is that what it takes for me to complain less about the rain we have in Vancouver??

I felt grateful that Stephan came on a 5-hour train ride from Munich to see me here.  I love how Germans “walk their talk,” unlike some other people I’ve met in my travels.  We laughed very heartily again after 15 months of not seeing each other.  Stephan brought back so many memories of the good old times while we were backpacking in South America. We stayed in the same hostel for 4 weeks in Buenos Aires.  It was there that Deon learned how to ride a bicycle; thanks to him.

Hamburg  is this country’s biggest port and the second busiest city in Europe.  It is also Germany’s second largest city with over 1.8 million people.   The people of Hamburg are known as “Hamburger.” Yes, the sandwich that a lot of people love because of its beef patties for the filling was named after this city, where presumably it was invented.

I would like to come back to visit Berlin and Munich next time I am in Europe because Germany is the 2nd country I connect to after Japan in terms of its being “high tech.”   But I am definitely gonna choose to come when the weather is warmer.

This is my 6th trip to Europe now, but again it just reconfirms how much more I prefer visiting Asian countries because of the food, weather and culture.   I surely will still come back to this place because Turkey, Poland, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Norway, and Greece are all in my “to go” list.
