Dec 4/08 – $$$ – De came to me and asked me, “Mommy why does my hair grow so fast?”

I responded, “The good thing about that is it’s just a sign of you having enough nutrition in your body.”

Then he said, “But the bad thing is that I have to get a cut so often which means a waste of your money.”

Isn’t he cute? I am almost afraid he will be a real “penny watcher” when he grows up.

I shared this short anecdote with Stephen Cheung.  And here’s what he said:

I think you should be proud that De thinks about it in that way, saving money rather than spending money. Of course, you need to teach him what money is necessary to spend, and what is not. Getting a decent haircut every month is a must-spend money. Keeping the hair nice and tidy and clean is a way to show his respect to other people. At least, don’t follow his mom, i.e. cutting the hair short 1 month, and then extending it  the next month, etc!)

I laughed at his reaction, especially the last part.  Seriously, I think it is too early to share with Deon my theory on “invest energy in trying to make more instead of spending less.” And “as long as you earn it, then be good to yourself”!!

Dec 22/08 – WISH COUPON

De accidentally saw the “wish coupons” that I was going to give him as his X’mas gift this year. He came to me and asked how they were to be used. I explained that I would grant him any one wish he makes so he should think carefully before he claimed it. Then he said he knew exactly what to wish for already.  When I asked him what it was, he said “I wish that you would grant him 2 wishes”!!

If that is not being smart, I don’t know what it is!
